With increasing globalisation comes the need for a common and consistent standard for achieving the health and safety of workers in all parts of the world.

IGC3 - Practical Assessment Procedure

Candidates are expected to recognise actual and possible hazards and good – as well as bad – work practices and welfare provisions. While only brief details of each hazard are required, it is important that the assessor can subsequently identify:

  • Where the hazard was located
  • The nature of the hazard
  • The degree of risk associated with the hazard
  • The remedial actions, where appropriate, with relevant prioritisation.

On completion of the inspection, candidates will be provided with lined paper and be allowed about one hour to produce the report, which must be in their own handwriting (unless, exceptionally, special arrangements have been agreed by NEBOSH). Candidates will be given a summary of the headings under which marks will be allocated for the report and observation sheets, and this will include the breakdown of marks for each part. The complete assessment of the practical unit will be carried out under as near examination conditions as possible and should not normally take more than two hours.
